Chapter 12
Liz looked out the window, watching the scenery flash by as the train she was taking to New York traveled through what she assumed as New Jersey. She grinned and looked down, trying to focus on the notebook in her lap. She had planned on using the time on the train to outline some articles that would be due not long after she got back to L.A. That, however, was next to impossible. All she could think about was getting to New York and seeing her friends again. It wasn’t that she hadn’t enjoyed spending Christmas with her parents and brother because she had. It was great to be home after being so far away for so long. But every time her phone made a noise signaling a call or text from Alex she felt guilty for wishing that she was with him instead. Of course, it was a feeling that she would have to get used to. When he went on tour in a few weeks it would always be like that, the wishing that she was with him instead of at work, the tugging feeling that she wasn’t where she was supposed to be, the slight jealousy toward the fans in the crowd that got to watch her boyfriend pour his soul out to them from the stage. But she didn’t want to think of that now, couldn’t allow herself to think of it. They would be fine. If Amy and Andy could do it then so could they.
“Now approaching Penn Station,” a voice announced over the P.A. system. Liz closed her notebook and stuffed it into her “Duh” tote bag that the guys had given her as an early Christmas present before they all left California. As soon as she heard the brakes engage she was on her feet and walking to the end of the car toward the baggage storage closet. She pulled her suitcase off the shelf and practically jumped down the stairs and onto the platform. She took a quick look around to figure out her bearings before walking into the main hub of the busy train station.
She had been expecting a small crowd of people to be there waiting for her but was instead met by one solitary person. She stopped about four yards from him and raised an eyebrow at him while biting her lip. Alex smiled that smile that made her go weak in the knees and nodded, signaling that, yes, he was alone there to get her. That was all the permission she needed to sprint across the floor and leap into his arms.
Alex stumbled backwards before finding his balance again. Feeling her body pressed against his, her legs firmly wrapped around his waist, he had to remind himself that they were in public. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but, um, if you don’t get off me now we might have a problem,” he whispered into her ear.
“Oh, shit. My bad.” Liz giggled and loosened her grip around his neck and waist.
Alex gently set her back on the ground and ran his index finger over her soft cheek. “I missed you.”
“You have no idea.” She closed her eyes as soon as his lips grazed hers. She wanted this first kiss to be become burned into her memory so that she could remember how perfect their reunion was while he was away. If the kiss was this toe-curlingly amazing after only a week, the release they would enjoy after he came back from touring and had a few moments in private would be explosive.
“Wow,” Alex whispered when they finally separated. “That was almost worth the week apart.”
“But only almost, right?”
“Right.” He shook his head, trying to come back down to earth.
“So not to sound like I don’t appreciate the single person welcoming party, ‘cause I totally do, but, uh, where’s everybody else?”
“I told them that I was gonna be down this way anyway so it would make sense for me to just swing by and pick you up,” he said as he took her bag and wrapped his other arm around her shoulders. “Plus this gives us a few hours to ourselves.”
“A few hours? I know traffic can suck but it doesn’t take more than, like, forty-five minutes to get to Amy’s from here.”
“I may have told a little white lie…”
“What?”
“Oh, look, a cab that’s been waiting for us. How convenient.” He pointed over to the waiting yellow minivan taxi.
“You do know they keep the meter running when you ask them to do that, right?”
Alex rolled his eyes. “Just get in.” Liz did as she was told and climbed into the back seat. Alex tossed her bag onto the seat behind them before sitting down next to Liz. “Back to the hotel, please,” he told the driver as he pulled the door closed.
The driver nodded and pulled away from the curb. “The hotel? I need some explanation, Noyes.”
“Ok, I told them that your train was delayed because of some technical thing and that it would be a few hours late.”
“What? Why?”
“Because I had to in order to solve our not so little problem.”
“Um, which one?”
Alex leaned over so that his lips were almost against her ear. “Think about it. What’s the one thing we haven’t been able to do yet?”
Liz felt her cheeks flush. “There are numerous things we haven’t done yet, Alex. I mean, there’s scuba diving, mountain climbing, singing karaoke, ending world hunger…”
“You know what I mean.” His hand gripped her upper thigh.
“Oh…that,” she breathed as he lightly kissed her neck. “How, uh, how far away is this hotel?” She swallowed at the sensation of his fingertips moving higher up her leg. Even through the fabric of her jeans, his touch set her skin on fire.
“Now you know how I felt in the train station,” he said with a laugh.
“You’re a d-bag, you know that?”
“Here we are, sir,” the driver said as they pulled up in front of a hotel.
“A Days Inn? A mid-range hotel chain is the location you choose for our first sexcapade? And where are we, anyway?”
“Look, I know it’s not the storybook locale but it has a bed and it’s outside the city so no one we know will randomly run into us.”
“Are we in Jersey?” Liz asked as she climbed out of the taxi with her suitcase in tow.
“Don’t even start. Here’s the room key,” Alex said, handing her the plastic card. “Why don’t you head up while I pay the driver?”
“Ok…”
“Five-sixteen.” As she turned to walk away, he reached out and slapped her ass, making her jump.
“What the fuck has gotten into you?” She turned around and smacked his arm, laughing the whole time. Alex shrugged, the huge smile never leaving his face. “Don’t make me wait too long, Noyes.” She sauntered into the hotel, over exaggerating the sway of her hips as she moved in hopes of making him laugh again. It was the best way she could think of to calm the butterflies in her stomach.
Liz got into the elevator and hit the “CLOSE DOOR” button right after she pushed the number five. When she reached the fifth floor, she walked to their room, stopping outside the door. She couldn’t understand why she was so nervous. It wasn’t like this would be her first time. Of course, it had been a little while. After Seth, she had decided to take a little break from dating and sex and just men in general to focus on school and her career. Unfortunately, she’d forgotten to get back on the hypothetical horse. She took a deep breath and slid the key through the lock.
The room was actually nicer than she’d expected. There was the standard miniscule hotel bathroom and two double beds, but from the window that took up almost a whole wall, Liz could see the entire New York City skyline. She sat down on the mattress and was surprised to find that it was actually pretty soft. She kicked off her sneakers and tossed them, along with her socks and jacked, onto the chair in the corner of the room.
“Hey. Sorry that took so long,” Alex said, kicking off his loafers as he entered the room. “Mike called to ask what time you were supposed to be getting in and then Amy wanted to know why you hadn’t called her to let her know and I kind of panicked for a second but I told her that it was because we had been texting at the time and that your phone was dying or something bullshit like that.” He sat down on the other bed, totally out of breath.
Liz reached over and took his hand. “You alright?”
“Huh? Yeah. This whole sneaking around thing is exhausting but…it’s kinda fun!” Liz laughed but Alex could hear her nerves coming through. “What is it?”
“Nothing. It’s stupid.”
“Just tell me.”
“It’s just that…it’s been a little while since I did this. Like, over a year, actually.”
“Come here.” She stood up and took two steps to eliminate the space between them. “I don’t want you to feel like you need to do anything you don’t wanna do, ok?”
Liz smirked. She ran her hands through his hair, pushing it back off his forehead. “It’s not a thing of not wanting to.”
“Then just relax,” he murmured before planting a kiss on her collar bone. Liz’s eyes fluttered closed and her head dipped back as his mouth moved down her chest to the first hint of her cleavage, lightly sucking on the delicate skin. She lifted her arms straight into the air, letting Alex remove her t-shirt. She kept her eyes closed, enjoying the sensation of his somewhat rough hands against her skin as they moved up her back to the clasp of her bra. As soon as she felt it release she shrugged the straps off her shoulders, letting it drop to the floor. She gently kicked it to the side, grinning demurely when she caught Alex admiring her bare chest.
Liz grabbed two handfuls of his hair and pulled his mouth to hers, quickly pushing her tongue past his lips as soon as they met. She moaned happily as his thumbs teased her nipples. As soon as she pulled back to take a breath his mouth moved back down her neck and chest. “Jesus, Alex,” she purred. His tongue slowly traced the outline of her right nipple while his left hand gently kneaded her other breast. She almost didn’t notice his other hand undoing her fly through the waves of pleasure currently dominating her brain. “Wait, why do you get to keep all your clothes on while I get stripped?”
“Because I won’t be able to go this slowly once my clothes are off,” he answered as he pushed her jeans, along with her boy short panties, down over the curve of her hips.
“It’s almost like you have this all mapped out,” she teased as she stepped out of her jeans and kicked them away.
“There’s a lot of time for private thoughts on the flight from LAX to Newark.”
She laughed then inhaled sharply when she felt one of his long fingers slowly ease inside of her and began moving it in and out slowly. Alex grinned, watching her face as he pressed his thumb against her most sensitive spot before beginning to slowly caress it. Liz moaned loudly and put her hands on his shoulders for balance, afraid that her knees would give out. He picked up on her quickened breathing and pushed another finger inside her, his thumb never stopping its circular motion. “I’m so close, Alex,” Liz managed to whisper after a few moments.
He kissed her passionately as he withdrew his hand. He stood up from where he’d been sitting on the bed and pulled his shirt up over his head. Liz ran her hands over his toned torso, gently raking her nails down his chest and over his ribs. She wanted to see and feel every inch of his body. She undid his belt and yanked it through the loops dramatically before tossing it to the side. “Sorry always wanted to do that.”
Alex nodded to the other bed. “Get in.”
“What, in bed?”
Alex nodded as he pulled his wallet out of his back pocket. He took out one of the condoms he’d stashed in there that morning and held the wrapper in his teeth as he undid his fly. Liz smirked and bit her lower lip as he opened it up then unrolled it down the length of his erection. “What’s the face for?”
“Just thinking about that day I saw you in the kitchen.” Alex laughed as he got into bed and got on top of her. This was it, what he’d been anticipating for months. Liz ran her hands over his muscular shoulders and was surprised to find that he was trembling. “You ok? Are you cold?”
“Maybe…might be slightly nervous, too.”
Liz smiled and wrapped her legs loosely around his waist. “I want you so much right now.” She kissed him heatedly, encouraging him to continue what he’d started. Her head fell back onto the pillow and she gasped as he entered her slowly.
Alex opened his eyes, surprised that he had even closed them. He didn’t want to blink, afraid that he would miss a single question. “Is…is this ok?”
“Stupid fucking question.”
He grinned as he slowly withdrew then inhaled sharply through his clenched teeth as he thrusted forward again, faster this time. Liz panted as she moved her hips in unison with Alex’s motions, matching his rhythm as his thrusting became quicker and more intense. She quickly found herself back in the state of heightened arousal he had brought her to manually. “Oh, God…” she growled. She pulled his face down to hers, kissing him again. She lightly sucked on his tongue as it pushed through her lips, making him groan into her mouth. Liz wrapped her legs more tightly around him and lifted her hips off the mattress, allowing him to move deeper inside of her.
“Oh, fuck, Lizzy!”
She tightly gripped his arms, her fingernails digging into his biceps. “Don’t fucking stop! Harder!” she begged urgently. He complied, the force of his movement slamming the headboard against the wall loudly. “Yes! Oh my fucking God, yes!” she screamed as orgasm overtook her. Her back arched as her climax coursed through her whole body. “Alex…”
Her cries were more than enough to send him over the edge. “Gaaaah-fuck!” He thrusted into her a few more times, eager to feel every possible sensation, before collapsing on top of her.
Liz ran her fingers through his hair, cradling his head against her chest as they tried to catch their breath. “Wow,” she finally managed to get out.
“Yeah.”
“That was…”
“Uh huh.”
“And then the…”
“Wow.”
Liz continued playing with his hair, enjoying the quiet moment of afterglow. Soon they would have to get dressed and go into the city to meet their friends and pretend like none of this ever happened. She wondered how she would hide the glow she could feel radiating from her skin. Would people see them together now and just know? Amy knew her so well. Surely she would be able to recognize the change. Maybe it was time to come clean with everyone. They now knew that they would compatible in everyway so it would be easy to convince Andy. He would understand why they had to hide their relationship at first, she was sure of it. “Hey, Alex?” She got no reply and realized that he had fallen asleep, his forehead against her neck. Liz rolled her eyes and giggled. There would be no moving him now. She reached over to the nightstand blindly and was glad to find his phone sitting there. She set the alarm to go off in half an hour, figuring that would give them both enough time to recharge, before closing her eyes and giving in to her own exhaustion.
* * * * *
Liz nervously bounced her knee as the cab drove through her old neighborhood. Alex laughed and put his hand on her thigh to steady it. “Excited much?”
“Yeah.” She gave him a quick smile before turning her attention back to the buildings they were passing.
“And?”
“And I think we should tell them.”
“Oh.”
“I just don’t want anyone to figure it out on their own.”
“Why don’t we wait just a tiny bit longer?”
“Really? I thought you would want to come clean.”
“I do but I kind of don’t want to be trapped on a tour bus for a few weeks with Andy while he contemplates my murder.”
“So as soon as you get home?” Liz asked as the car slowed to a stop in front of Amy’s building.
“The minute I walk in the door.” Liz bit her bottom lip nervously. “Hey, be nicer to that lip. I’m friends with it and don’t like all the abuse it’s been getting lately.” He leaned in and gave her one last long kiss, not knowing when his next opportunity would come. “You ready to rejoin the real world?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
